When most Christians hear the words Satan or devil, they immediately think of a supernatural fallen being. But the Bible itself gives these words a more basic meaning.

The parable of the ten virgins is one of those passages that has been pulled out of its setting for so long that many people read it as though Jesus were talking about Christians thousands of years later, waiting for a future “end of the world” event.

No disrespect to John Hagee, Jewish people, or anyone else is intended in this article. This is not an attack on a man, a race, or a nation. It is a challenge to a theological teaching that has become deeply rooted in much of modern Christianity.
